New York, August 13 (FinanceEnquiry.com) – The closing ceremony of 2012 London Olympics came to end on Sunday. The ceremony opened with the performance of Emeli Sande on the cover of Professor Green’s ‘Read All About it’.
The cast of West End show ‘Stomp’ performed after her, which was enjoyed by Prince Harry of Britain, who was attending the event in place of his grandmother, Queen Elizabeth.
Hits like ‘Our House’ and ‘West End Girls’ were sung by the 1980s group Madness and Pet Shop, respectively and then One Direction ignited the crowd by singing its smashing hit ‘What Makes You Beautiful’. Ray Davies also came up to sing along to his classic ‘Waterloo Sunset’ for a huge crowd of 80,000. After that, Emeli came back to the stage to finish her version of ‘Read All About it’ while the most memorable moments of the Games were shown on the big screen.
Also, the 90s girl bank- Spice Girls reunited to perform for the ceremony. The band included Victoria Beckham, Geri Halliwell, Mel B, Emma Bunton and Mel C, who all arrived individually to spice up the stage on the top of five London taxis and sang their hits ‘Wannabe’ and ‘Spice Up Your Life’ for the ceremony.
Singer George Michael performed for the first time after recovering from pneumonia after an year gap and sang ‘Freedom’. The classic Oasis tune ‘Wonderwall’ was performed by Beady Eye’s Liam Gallagher, whereas other performers who performed at the closing ceremony includes Jessie J, Fatboy Slim, Tinie Tempah, Taio Cruz, Annie Lennox, Russell Brand, Muse.
British band, Blur also performed and was a part of the event which ended yesterday. Famous track ‘We Will Rock You’ was performed by Brian May and he was later joined by Jessie J. A group of Bollywood dancers also performed as Monty Python’s Eric Idle had the whole stadium singing with him on ‘Always Look on the Bright Side of Life’.
A musical carnival was presented by the host city of 2016 Olympic Games, The road to Rio, before the chairman of the London Games Organizing Committee, Sebastian Coe, who also praised the athletes, volunteers and huge crowd that made the event a big success.
Another entertainment performance was a flamboyant ballet routine, performed by Darcey Bussell, who came flying into the stadium and extinguished the flame, though there was a last thrill for the audience, which was performed by The Who, delivering their smashing hits and ended the event with ‘My Generation’.
