College credit card debts; an added stress on the young mind

College days are carefree and full of confidence. Youngsters feel that everything is possible and available. Everything looks attractive. The hoardings screaming about the latest gizmos or the big sale offer on various products looks attractive.

At this age, the half baked knowledge of finance and unawareness of the world around you often makes you miscalculate. The easy access to credit cards makes all these purchases easily possible for them. But they fail to read between the lines regarding clauses of the company. Before they realize it, they already have accumulated a huge amount to be paid along with the student's loan. With late payments or no repayments, they may land up with a bad credit record. This might hamper their loans or credit transactions in the future.

But one has to realize that students, like other people, are very vulnerable to the nefarious deals of a credit card. Firstly, to get rid of college credit card debts, the students have to go through the various offers and interest rates of the credit card company and choose the one with the minimum interest rate and maximum time limit for repayment.

The other way of avoiding college credit card debts by students is to spend within their resources. They should repay the credit amount as soon as possible and pay more than the minimum payment required to reduce the interest rates.

Students should not overuse the credit card or continue to spend till they reach the maximum permitted limit of the card. To avoid such situations, the credit card companies have a lower credit limit for students.

To get rid of college credit card debts, it is advisable to go for secured credit cards. This is because for such cards, there is a 50% or 100 % amount to be maintained in the account attached to the bank lending credit card. This makes the repayment process much assured as once the student fails to repay the amount in the specified time, then the bank deducts the money directly from the account.

Students should take care of the fact that owing too many credit cards always works against them. The entire idea of taking one credit card to repay the money owned to the other card is a vicious cycle and is best to be avoided.

Apart from this, few sensible things to be taken care of is to realize the value of money and commodities. A college student needs to understand that a balance between the spending capacity and paying capacity is critical and should be maintained at all costs. Student life is more fun without any debt tension!
