Do You Really Need Travel Insurance?

If you are going to be traveling, regardless of the purpose, then you definitely need to purchase travel insurance.  Have you ever wondered what this type of coverage is or why anyone would possibly need it? Well, this is a type of insurance that can bring you peace of mind while you are on vacation or while you are traveling for business. Of course, like any other insurance policy, you’ll hope and pray that you will never have to put the benefits of the policy into effect. However, considering Murphy’s Law (anything that can go wrong will go wrong), there is an excellent chance that something will not go exactly as planned while you are traveling.

Just as an example, consider what the situation would be like if you arrived at your destination but your baggage did not. What would you do? Who would you call? Can you even imagine the difficulties that you’ll face without having a travel insurance policy to cover your losses?

Travel insurance covers more than a simple case of lost baggage, though. It also can provide medical coverage, accident insurance, and—something we would not really want to think about, but it can happen—the cost of sending your remains back to the US if you die in another country. Can you just imagine the stress your family would face if you were to pass away while traveling in another country? There’s truly no good reason to withhold the peace of mind from your family that travel insurance can provide.

Suppose you are traveling to Florida, but the resort closes because a hurricane is coming. You have already paid for your non-refundable flight tickets and non-refundable room reservations. Now, due to circumstances beyond your control, you are unable to take the much-needed vacation you have been so diligently planning.  Are your tickets and reservations really non-refundable? Is there truly no possible way to get your money back? Well, without travel insurance, you will never see a dime of that investment returned to you.

The people who probably need travel insurance more than anyone else would be those who travel most frequently, for example, those who commute from one state to another for a job during the week and return home for the weekends. With such frequent weekly flights, lodging and transportation arrangements, it is quite possible that there will be problems along the way. Nothing could be worse than being unprepared. But, when being prepared is what’s important, you can be sure that there is a very simple solution. For the minor fees associated with purchasing a travel insurance policy, you can rest assured that whatever goes wrong, and something always does, it will be covered.

The idea is not simply to protect yourself from any losses you might incur, but also to protect your family when you are traveling. Just as you would not get into a car to drive to work without having auto insurance, you certainly should not plan a vacation or business trip without the unsurpassed coverage of a good travel insurance policy.
