Car Dealers Not Convinced that Higher Outlays on Facilities will Boost Sales
February 6, 2012

New York, February 5 (FinanceEnquiry.com) - Ford Motor Co. (NYSE: F) and the other major auto makers are providing their dealers with their vision of how their dealerships should look with renovations and upgrades. At this weekend’s National Automobile Dealers Association meeting in Las Vegas, Ford unveiled a new look, though dealers are not ready to undertake multi-million upgrade investments, saying that they need better vehicles before making huge investments.

The dealers’ group released a report on their upgrade programs saying that very high expenditure would be involved without necessarily boosting sales. Car dealers were not convinced of the cost-effectiveness of the investments needed to make the changes, although they wanted modern facilities projecting a positive image of the brand.

The dealers said that even after spending $1 million to upgrade facilities at the request of the auto makers and sticking to the minutest details, they do not find any tangible additional sales. Consumers who wish to buy a particular brand of vehicles can go to any dealer that sells that brand without caring whether the dealership has a nicer facility. A much needed discussion about the issue between the auto makers and the dealers has now been recommended to work out the nature of the dealership of the future.
