New York, April 20 (FinanceEnquiry.com) – On Friday, Nissan revealed its plans to build two models of its luxury Infiniti brand in China from 2014. The Japanese auto giant aims to reach its sales target of 500,000 units by 2016, compared to 145,000 last year when it was produced in Japan and the US.
Nissan did not disclose the type of models that will be produced at facilities operated by Dongfeng Motor Co., its Chinese partner. It’s also unclear if some units will be exported to other markets outside China or not.
The production will not be affected at other Infiniti plants as the result of this move. At present, Nissan has three plants across China. The local production will enhance customers’ access to Infiniti’s high quality products, increasing brand awareness and market share. Last year, China, Nissan’s largest market, accounted for more than one quarter of its 4.67 million in vehicle sales.
