Nvidia (NVDA) Set To Unveil Dual-core Phone To Undercut Apple's (AAPL) iPhone
February 16, 2012

New York, February 16 (FinanceEnquiry.com) - Nvidia Corp (NASDAQ: NVDA), the graphics chipmaker, is gearing up to develop an inexpensive dual-core phone that will compete with Apple’s (NASDAQ: AAPL) iPhone. The company plans to price it about 75 percent less than that of the iPhone 4S. The phone will use Nvidia’s Tegra 2 processor paired with a 3G modem and will be priced at 1,000 RMB, whereas the iPhone sells at RMB 4,988 in China.

Nvidia reported a fourth-quarter net income of $116 million, or 19 cents a share against a year earlier income of $172 million or 29 cents a share. Analysts were expecting 19 cents a share. It also reported revenue for the quarter at $953 million, against $886 million a year ago.

On Thursday, Nvidia Corp. stock dropped 6 percent after it estimated lesser sales of its Tegra 3 processors used in mobile devices. It said that sales of its PC graphics chips are being badly affected due to delays at its contract manufacturer. Nvidia said that its 28-nanometer chips were in short supply, due to delays at its contracts manufacturer, TSMC, caused by the Thailand floods. Nvidia was once known for its graphics cards, though it has now diversified into the smartphone and tablet market and is competing with Qualcomm and Texas Instruments.
